About Kerryn
My job as a primary school teacher at Brooklyn School has given me the chance to inspire and support young learners every day. It has provided me with the skills necessary for leading; patience, empathy, and a drive for change. I am invested in ensuring that our vision as a district protects the interests of our young people, allowing them the best chance to thrive in an ever-changing environment.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked in commercial and residential property, focusing on operations management. This experience helped me develop a comprehensive understanding of how property transactions, land development, and land management operate. This experience has sharpened my problem-solving skills, my eye for detail, and my ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments with confidence and clarity.
My University education resulted in a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology, a field that has deeply influenced how I engage with people and communities. Through studying diverse cultures and social systems, I’ve gained a strong appreciation for inclusivity, empathy, and the value of diverse perspectives. This academic grounding continues to shape my approach to work and relationships, reinforcing a respectful and people-centered mindset in all that I do.
I bring strong interpersonal skills, a caring nature, and a genuine desire to help others to everything I do. I share my life with my wonderful partner, Ben, and our silly little cat, Luna. Together, we enjoy the simple joys of life and cherish each moment. When I’m not in the classroom, I love tending my garden, caring for my bees, or enjoying the outdoors. I was born in Namibia to South African parents, raised in America, and I am now a proud New Zealand citizen. I feel incredibly grateful to call Motueka my home — a place that inspires my spirit and nourishes my soul. My journey has shaped who I am — someone passionate about community, growth, and making a positive difference.
